I coach in an open, honest, confidential and holistic partnership with athletes who compete in high-risk sports to help them fully utilise their minds as a core component of their sporting activity to fulfil their athletic career, control their sporting environment and maximise every competition performance.
My approach to coaching is to help you find the right answers and solutions to the performance issue which is important to you at that moment. I do not put you through a pre-defined program, nor my own agenda or use a “cookie-cutter” approach. Performance mindset coaching is all about you.
I do not use or promote any one particular approach to coaching, rather I take tools and skills from across a range of human behavioural sciences. This means we have a whole library of resources at our disposal. Together we will find what is important to you and develop solutions which maximise your performance.
Don’t get me wrong, there are times when we will swap into training mode. We may well decide to use skills or techniques which are new for you, so then I will train you in the basics and we will then modify those so they work for you. Over time we will come back to them to improve your skills, knowledge and application to ensure they deliver the performance gains you need and when you need it.
Most coaching sessions are 1 hour in length and will be done by a virtual meeting or video-call (using Zoom, Skype, Google Meet or FaceTime), so it doesn’t matter where you and I are located on this planet. Of course, if we live and work around the corner from each other then let’s meet over a coffee! The phone also works, but it is better as a backup if needed. I can also come to you, which is particularly useful for coaching through an event or in preparation for an event.
I take a holistic approach and coach each athlete as a total person while accepting you as you are. In other words, I welcome and encourage you to bring any part of your life to a coaching session. Career, work, family, relationships, your place in humanity, these all have a very real and significant impact on your competitive performance.
