Exams are not just academic events - they are pressure events 


Most students prepare only the academic content, yet very few are trained to manage the pressure, nerves, sleep disruption, and mental overload that determine performance on exam day. 


At Cognitive Performance Coaching, I specialise in elite performance coaching for athletes and senior executives who operate in high-stakes environments where mistakes can be costly. The same evidence-based methods that help Formula 1 Champions and high-stakes corporate negotiators can be directly applied to students facing major exams. 


This is not tutoring - this is performance coaching


Why Exam Performance Matters 


Research consistently shows that high exam anxiety impairs working memory and recall, narrows attention, increases cognitive errors, disrupts sleep and recovery, and reduces performance relative to true ability. Many capable students underperform not because they lack knowledge, but because they have not been trained to perform under pressure.

I coach students to approach exams the way elite athletes handle competition or CEOs manage crises.

What Makes This Different 


This program is not tutoring, not study skills training, and not generic wellbeing coaching. It applies the same performance frameworks used with elite motorsport athletes, senior executives, and high-stakes negotiation teams. Exams are treated as performance environments, and students are coached accordingly. 


About the Coach 


Kim Bessell is the founder of Cognitive Performance Coaching and is credentialed with the International Coaching Federation (ICF), certified by Hintsa Performance (the human performance system used in Formula One), and experienced in coaching leaders and athletes operating in high-pressure, high-consequence environments. He brings the same calm, structured, and evidence-based approach to students preparing for important exams. Kim holds both the Working With Children Check (NSW) and Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) certifications. 


Format 

- Individual coaching (3–6 sessions) 

- Delivered virtually (Australia-wide and globally) or face-to-face (in Bungendore NSW) 

- Practical tools and personalized routines 

- Parent briefing available if desired 


Cost 

$125 for each 1-hour session
